Evaluation

Introduction

When we was first introduced to tasks like screenwriting , filmmaking , cinematography and editing there were a few challenges along the way which there were many solutions to the problems that were faced and accomplished , even if it felt like I was failing its something I could learn from and make improvements too. For example screenwriting wasn't exactly my strong point due to the fact that I had no clue on how to write a screenplay ( script ) for example little things that needed to be added a long the way e.g. the transitions ( fade in ) or the change of the location or setting , all this was quite new to me which ill explain further into my evaluation . The overall challenge was too make sure everything was done to quite a high standard .

Editing /Filmmaking 

A task I was given was to structure and assemble a scary movie but it was spilt up into many different clips we could use our creative skills and put it in any order we want , I think this is where I started to fail because I didn't watch all the clips first I came up with the concept that it starts off with her sleeping then I continued from there , but actually in the end the "scary movie" turned out quite good because I really enjoy editing and exploring different ways I can use software's such as premiere pro , even though it wasn't a complete finished task , it taught me how to assemble and structure things that look good when played all together and also we edited this project step by step for example our first job was too watch the clips then , put them in whatever order we chose then edit it by adding transitions and cuts , then finally add audio which I believe was another challenge aspect of the task due to the fact you had to find a suitable piece of audio that best represents the theme which is indeed horror and it had to be in time with the moving image which I think I was quite task but I got it done in the end , I think once I grasped how to put everything in order so it would correlate I achieved what I was asked to do during the whole task .

The task I wanted to reflect the most is recent task we did as a group , were was given a camera and shoulder rig which was quite hard to use the shoulder rig that is because it took quite a few attempts to adjust myself too using it because you had to physically place it on your shoulder and place the camera directly on top and it a poll keeping the distance between me and the actual camera , too make sure I was using the shoulder rig properly , as a group we took it turns to film , it took us about three attempts each to take practise shots , too see the difference between using a shoulder rig and just a camera on its own , the shots taken with the shoulder rig looked much better and it looked and felt more stable whilst we was filming our test shots .with the shoulder as a group we thought of different ways to film for example the first section were we panned ( a movement which scans a scene horizontally) it took us quite a bit of time to film due to the fact we couldn't get the timing right because this task we was given require no editing what so ever , so therefore we came up with an idea which only required one single frame / shot , with the help of the shoulder rig it went according to plan .Using the shoulder rig ended up being quite productive because it gave us all an insight how real movies are filmed and made by shooting this scene we created I gained a new skill which was using a shoulder rig for the first time .

A huge strength would defiantly be my editing skills because its something I am most comfortable with and I also when I do get things I acknowledge it and try and correct the mistake and learn from it . An editing task we was given which isn't completely finished our group is still in the process of editing the 180 degree rule footage because we had many complications for example the footage on the camera didn't entirely exported properly so therefore we had a major set back in which it resulted in us not being able to edit and that put us further behind other groups , but we've made a plan too all work together and edit so that it will get done quicker.

Screenwriting

Like I said in the introduction of my evaluation , we was given the task to try out screenwriting we used a software called celtx , which was quite unfamiliar to me because I have never written screenplay before so when It took me a bit of trying out to get the hang of how to us it , I wrote a short and brief screenplay about two very diverse and different characters which would slowly  develop through the scene . The overall objective of screenwriting was too get us too the experience the reality of how scripts and screenplays are written and what format they are partially written in , for the most part I struggled on what to write about and how to write it . Screenwriting is defiantly a particular weakness for me because as you can in the picture directly opposite I didn't get to finish because I found it quite hard but even though I didn't get to finish I still presented / showed some results of screenwriting , but even though it was quite challenging I still enjoyed the fact that I could piece together my own screenplay and that it was originally , clearly there is some room for improvement but that's what I can reflect on the fact that I attempted to write something I was defiantly not familiar , and it didn't come to me as natural as it did to many others . During the writing of my screenplay like I said in the introduction I had many aspects that needed too be included in the making of it and not just the main facture which is dialogue , with screenwriting , it written in quite a unique format were everything you write has a particular place or line for example if you stating a INT everything written in that line had to be in capital letters which I really struggled to remember , but as I continued to write it started to stick in my brain .

Due to the fact we wrote a screenplay of our own we used this as inspiration towards the next task we was given , which was another filming task that require us to film from different angles and perspectives to capture that 180 degree rule we was trying to accomplish .
The reason we did screenwriting is that we can gain knowledge about the media industry and also when it comes to further projects down the line that may possibly include screenwriting we would then have a better understanding and now would be able to write our own

Cinematography 

In terms of this we was told about the 180 degree rule which we had to apply too our filming , reflecting back on filming from different angles to get that 180 degree rule was quite challenging and frustrating because we couldn't get the camera to focus and we couldn't get the correct position so we had to do numerous of takes and also because we had to film the 180 degree rule in completely separate parts we had too make sure everything that we said was the exact same so when it came too editing and making sure it only looked as if the camera switched positions everything had to be the exact same , but to achieve sets of footage loads of cuts and changes had too be made , during the process of filming as a group we didn't realise the that the footage we may of capture may have to be retaken due to the fact the 180 degree will not work if we aren't saying the exact same things that we previously recorded , that was the biggest challenge we faced because when all the footage comes together it may not all make sense , but that's defiantly something myself and the whole group can learn from . 

Conclusion 

To conclude my evaluation I would like to set myself a few targets for next time for example I would like to challenge myself with more screenwriting opportunities and seeing whether I could write a full script with proper context . Another target would be to improve on my filmmaking and camera work so I could be more advancing in filming the way I am with editing . I need to learn how to film with a shoulder rig because I didn't really get a chance to use when we was filming test shots . The final target would be for me to plan and organise , my task and assignments before I go ahead with it , but accept for that I found it overall quite good.
