Photography Evaluation / reflection

Introduction

During this photography unit I did a lot of professional practise shoots , so I experimented with different genres and types of photography for example , editorial , fashion and photo journalism ,also high key low key and silhouette photography , I have photography samples of each of these . I also did a lot of research which included some of my favourite photographers , some were based on my chosen photography for my final project which happen to be editorial fashion , I researched around about four different photographers so that I could adapt my photography through researching . By researching all these different photographers and learning all these different techniques allowed me to practise and develop my photography , it also made me expand my ideas technically and aesthically.

·         Explain and reflect on all research into genre’s and photographers and how they have informed, develop and helped you with your ideas.

·        You need to discuss your understanding of photography techniques and technology and how, as you have gone through the unit practicing these techniques and requirements has/has not helped with ideas and producing photography.

One of the very first things  I researched was about Editorial fashion , and how a picture was taken , I referenced in some of my research that its quite relatable to fashion photography , as I began to do some research about editorial photography , and how I expanded my knowledge about how photographers bring a sense of realism to the photographers , they tell a story with just one image and that's exactly what I wanted to do with my chosen photography develop it into something quite unique , by researching this particular genre it helped me really imagine my idea and decide whether editorial photography was the correct genre for me to chose , whether I could really capture it . So therefore I did my own research by choosing my own editorial photographer which happened to be Steven Meisel , which is an editorial fashion photographer , who I technically and aesthically research , which I believed really helped me developed my understanding about editorial fashion photography , this particular genre and photographer had various qualities about their work that really intrigued me for example , the representation and presentation of his work was aesthically pleasing to the eye , it was bright vibrant and colourful , which I defiantly wanted to add to my type of photography . His photography really helped me take my photography to the next level , with gaining this knowledge it allowed me to use techniques such as apertures and shutter speeds .  I practised editorial fashion in the photography studio were I brought in a model to be photographed and we took photos with high key photography because that's what looked the best and made the model stand out in terms of lighting and structuring . This photographer in general had a particular target audience which was mainly females , having a particular target audience didn't really help me meet the requirements of what my target audience should be and how it will reflect back to my photography .

The link to the research I did about Meisel & Guzy

Another photographer that I researched was called Carol Guzy who is a photo journalist , who related his photography with the truth , by researching and looking at his photography technically and aesthically , it made me reflect and review photography differently , for example this photography in a completely different light by portraying the truth within a image . Technically I really liked the way the photographer used shutter speed to control the amount of movement within the image , especially with photo journalism , you are able to capture things within the moment to capture that sense of innocence / realism . Aestically I liked the way each photograph was presented and laid out it showed a story behind one photograph , most of these photographers photos most of Guzy photos are shot in monochrome , which creates more of an in-depth  meaning to his images , which helped me practised taking photographs  in vivid rather than monochrome so I could experience the difference between and colour and black and white to which one I preferred . I've practised many times on how to shoot in the style of this photographer , this type of genre and style was different to the genre I chose which was editorial fashion photography , by researching this photographer I grasped the idea behind photo journalism , ad how it was transferred into realism . By researching this particular photographer I learned how to enhance beauty within a particular frame or angle , it just takes that right moment to capture a perfect image . By learning / researching this very talented photographer I picked up a lot versatile skills which actually adapted my photography when I was taking photos in the photography studio.

#    The genre of photography that I chose was editorial fashion photography the reason I chose to do this is because it was in relation to me and what I like fashion , and I conducted loads of  research in regards to editorial fashion , I did my own photo-shoot representing my genre and theme some of my photographs are below. The photo-shoot was inspired by
