Research Photography

  • Creative Intention; what is your chosen genre of photography as discussed in class? Explain your concept/theme for this genre. You need to explain your approach to your ideas and why you have chosen them?

The genre I have chosen is editorial fashion photography and the theme is glamour to go with the red backdrop . The ides is too create a editorial magazine spread for example I will be using elements from a actual fashion magazine and putting it into a picture frame , but still have that glamorous effect , the reason I chose fashion is due to the fact it best represents me , and I feel like I can portray myself in this aspect of photography. The reason I have chosen this particular type of photography is because its vibrant and its editorial fashion , and it's something I can practise in the photography studio , for example I can change the colour of the backdrop to red , and I can get various of models and props to pose in front of the camera. Examples of my chosen photography is a above .
  • Target Audience; Identify and explain this audience in relation to ongoing research you have looked at. Who and why is this your audience and how will your photography project appeal to them? .
In Terms of target audience , for example demographics who would be the ideal target audience in terms of the most intrigued to this particular genre / style , the majority target audience would  young females between the ages of 16 - 30 , due to the fact that its editorial high end fashion photography so it would appeal to the higher age of females lowest age being 16 . My photography project would definitely appeal to the younger audience but it could appeal to both male and females , most high end fashion photographers use females as their models .

( reference / website ) - Fashion Photography
 Steven Meisel
Steven Meisel  he represents Italian vogue. Here are a few examples of Steven Meisel work .Steven Meisel is an American fashion photographer, who obtained popularity and critical acclaim with his work in US and Italian Vogue . Technically and aseptically, for example the framing and angles are either close up shots , all of his photographs are all monochrome , they are shot in one colour which is black and white . Steven Meisel is one of the most famous fashion photographers in history , he turned unknown models into model icons . The one thing I like about this particular photo , is that they are perfect for magazines which is exactly the idea I was going for ,magazine based idea which involves fashion photography , which is what my interior idea is based around editorial fashion .
Technical
Aperture / depth of field - I like the fact the main focus is the model and the things surrounding her are blurred / faded , which makes the model the main focus of the piece , the focus determines how far away the field actually is , another technical thing would be the shutter speed , the photographer has show the faster the shutter speed the less blurry the shot , which is what I like about this photographer all his photographs are sharp , and the model is always the main focus. Another technical thing would be the light sensitivity , in this photos you can see that the light is low , because his photographs are sharp and clear to the eye . Technically I think his photography is flawless because of the way he considers his framing and angles he shoots from I like exactly the way he does it , he captures every single tiny detail , when shooting quite up close.
Aesthetical
Aesthetically I like the nature and appearance of the photographers photos , in photography you need to appreciate the beauty behind a photograph , Steven photographs has been beautifully composed , for example the angles and the fact that majority of his photographs have been shot in black and white. He has defiantly applied originality and aesthetics , which is exactly what I want to apply to my photography work . You have to consider the thoughts and concepts behind aesthetic photography for example with Meisel photography , he visualised exactly the way he wants his photographs to look , this particular photographer picked a theme , with the photographers perception of how he wants it to look aesthetically  . Some photographers use the golden ratio , the ration is 1.618 to 1 , which gives off an aesthetically pleasing composition. . Aesthetically I like how pleasing to the eye all of his photographs look , they remind of vogue but the olden version , simple but glamorous .
Target Audience

The target audience for this particular photographer would be demographically young females between the ages of 16 upwards due to the fact its editorial fashion photography so it would mainly attract young females , because the way he has portrayed the models , Steven has made them look aesthetically more youthful and very vibrant whether the photo is in vivid or monochrome . Due to the research i have conducted Steven photos are aimed at middle aged women his photos make age look graceful and youthful . I would say the target audience is quite niche it attracts a main audience.

Photojournalism ( Reference / Website )

Carol Guzy

Carol Guzy is a photojournalist , she is an American news photographer who has won prestigious awards based on her brilliant journalism  . Majority of her photos are monochrome , the framing and composition of the photos is like she captures her photos in the moment . The one thing I like about her work is that her work has a genre and meaning , its quite simple but very effective . it's quite editorial but each image tells a story which is exactly what I want to achieve with my photography .  In one of her photography you can see that she uses shallow depth of field which means that the foreground is in focus and the background is out of focus so therefore the main focus is what we can see clearly .

Technical

Aperture /depth of field - The main focus is what we cans eely as said previous in the first paragraph , the photographer has used shallow depth of field , which makes the viewer see what needs to be seen , it makes them read more into the photographer , because the photograph is journalism . The aperture is how much light being let into the camera lens which determines how bright or dim the photograph will be in this case the photographer aperture has let just the right amount of light into the frame . producing minimal lighting . Another thing would be the shutter speed , which predicts the outcome of how blurry the photograph will be , the faster the shutter speed the less blurred out the photograph , with this particular photographer has used shallow depth of field so the background is quite blurry and the foreground is not so therefore the shutter speed is to make sure the right amount of light goes into it , the bigger the denominator the faster the shutter speed , in this case the photographer is freezing something in the moment so therefore she is using a slower shutter speed to capture a movement without it turning out blurry . Technically the level of photography is flawless its of a professional level , award winning photography .

Aesthetically

Aesthetically I like the way all the images have been structured and composed for example the framing and the composition , the way it all has been put together , it has been well thought and processed , for example the camera has captured every little detail of the "model" and even though the photo has been taken in black and white ( monochrome )  it still has effective as having a photograph in colour ( vivid ) .This photograph work was definitely visualised before it was taken , because the photos are beautiful presented and well put together
