Write a treatment - blog

A treatment is an outline of your film idea, what you will do and who it is for. It doesn’t need to be long, but write in sentences and include the following:

• Brief description of documentary idea - what is it about?
• Length of the film (5 minutes)
• Outline of style and techniques you plan to use
• Intended target audience
• Try to include some production detail; describe who, what, where, when you plan to film

Brief description of documentary idea

 My documentary idea is about a young aspiring footballer , who is studied a btec course in business  , I wanted to create a documentary based around his life , and how he discovered he wanted to become a footballer  , it will be me following him around capturing things about his life that he has never spoken about , I want to create a story based documentary , which includes many observational shots of his life . I didn't want to add a voiceover that's not his voice because it would be like he is telling the story . This Documentary has a beginning , middle and end . The main idea behind this documentary was inspired by my kitch documentary how the power of music can impact your speech , that's why im doing another documentary based on sport , I want to know what empowered him to become a football player .

The length of the film

The length of the film will be about 5 minutes maybe a few seconds over due to the fact I have planned and structure the timeframe for the documentary .

• first part ( 1 minute ) A brief introduction of Enock
• Second part ( 30 - 45 seconds ) observational shots
• Third part ( 15 seconds ) Voice over
• Fourth part ( 1 minute ) visuals of some of the work he has done
• fifth part ( 1 minute 30 seconds ) answering general question (interview)
• sixth part ( 30 seconds ) enock football skills  being played at the end .
• Ending - credits and a song fading out .

Skills and Techniques

There are many skills and Techniques I would like to use here is a list .

• Voiceover - to map out the documentary
• Interviews - to get that idea of a conversation ( shot reverse shot maybe)
• Text / graphics - use for the introduction of his name or brand
• observational shots - so that the audience can get an overview of his life .
• Music - to empathise his career choice which is a music producer.  

Target Audience  

 The target audience would defiantly be between the age bracket of 16 -20 due to the fact the subject that this documentary is based on is about a 18 year old boy aspiring to be a football player, so I believe it should be aim at that particular age group because its many targeting young people . In terms of efficiency and demographics , would be between British African boys , it could be girls to but the popular demographic would 100 percent be boy , due to the fact its based around one . Particularly boys from London because this is all being filmed in London from a open perspective . So I intend for my target audience to be structured around that demographic in general .

Production

• The main location - Leyton sixth form college / football grounds
• The main subject - enock 
• Starting to film date Thursday 17th January ( capturing the first bit of footage )
• The person I will be filming is aspiring football player.  .
• I plan to film over the next few days so I can capture a lot of footage so that the length of the documentary is 5 minute long .

The editing stage would be a longer process because I have to piece and cut footage together so that it all makes sense , and so that everything has a recurring order , a beginning , middle and end sort of structure , I want to capture a lot of footage so that I have a lot to work with when it comes to the editing stage , so that I can really tell a story through a documentary piece.
